1968
The final year UVA graduated nurses with diplomas, 20 years after the BSN was founded

As 1968 was the final year in which the School graduated a diploma class (nearly 20 years after enrolling its first BSN students in 1950), last June’s Reunions weekend also marked the 50th anniversary of that class at a lively celebration in the Eleanor Crowder Bjoring Center for Nursing Historical Inquiry.

Forty-five alumni and their guests attended the reception that included diploma nurses from all across the country. Attendees heard remarks from Dean Dorrie Fontaine and Barbara Brodie, founding director of the Center and a professor emerita, and enjoyed an evening of reminiscing and reconnecting with classmates and friends. Many noted that the event was very special to them and helped them feel more connected to their UVA Nursing community.
