The Compassionate Care Initiative (CCI) pictures its impact like throwing a pebble into a pond, sending ripples in all directions. It begins with signature offerings for students, such as retreats, coursework, and CCI’s Learning Series events, all designed to advance CCI’s mission: “To promote the skills and conditions that grow and sustain compassionate care.”

But it’s students and alumni who keep CCI concepts burning at their core. Long after the experience, lesson, or lecture is over, many reflect on how encounters with CCI lessons and conversations inspired change in their own lives and the lives of others—for good.

Read how they overcame psychological hurdles to bend toward self-care; intentionally employed calm when interacting with difficult patients; advocate for an integrative approach to health for patients, hospital staff, and new nurses; apply CCI-inspired lessons to find strength in stillness to lead health system well-being efforts; and translate CCI’s work into health policy and advocacy that improves conditions for nurses and in healthcare, IN THEIR OWN WORDS."
